Winter Boat Projects 2008

All the drilling I had been doing made quite
a mess.  My helper was right there
vacuuming things up.  She really was a
good help.  The only thing was she now
has an opinion on the type of music she
likes.  She was in charge of the radio
when she was out there.  Luckily she like
mostly the same music as I do.

I put a good layer of silicone around the
holes.  Then as I tightened the bolts, I only
just snugged them down.  I then used my
finger to smooth out the silicone on the
inside of the large hole so that it did not
restrict the hole and to seal off the
exposed wood.  I then let this dry.  I then
came back and tightened the bolts the
rest of the way.  My theory was that this
created a good gasket. It also should not
have allowed the metal to actually touch
the glass.
You can see here the backing plates I
made to help support the grab rails.  The
wires from the top now have four places
to run down to the helm or into the cabin
to the fuse blocks.  I ran pull strings in
each for easier use later.

I had an extra VHF radio and installed it as
you can see here.  I will use this radio to
monitor Ch#16 while my main radio will be
on the "Buddie's" channels.  You can also
see a small light I installed over the chart
table.  This will greatly help with night
time travel on the water.  I had to install
another antenna for the new radio.  You
can see that in the picture to the right.
You can also see the replacement horn
for the old rusty horn.  I was going to put
in a air horn system but the resulting DB
rating was not enough more than this 12v
system.  This new horn is loud!
A look at the front of the boat with the
new hardware.  I also added an am/fm
antenna for the radio.  They did not put
one in when the dealer installed the radio.
No wonder my reception was bad!

I have always had trouble with corrosion
on my Nav lights and so I replaced them
with some LED Nav lights.  I hope this will
help!

Since the top was open I added a light to
each side of the top to light up the water
on those scary overnight trips!  This
should also help for fishing at night.
These lights were not of high quality and
will likely need to be replaced.  But for
now I will see how they work.
