Tuna 9/30/06
Well the tuna were still there and it was my birthday, so I begged the High
Commander to let me out one more time!  The last trip was to be my last,
but she grudgling let me out for one more.  The crew did not seem so
surprised when I called.  In fact it seemed they were expecting my call.
We met saturday morning and started getting a little bait right there in the
harbor.   After the sun started to peek over the horizon the bait in the harbor
seemed to quit biting so we headed out into the open river and the bait
waiting there!  Getting quite a bunch there in the river we headed across
the bar.  It was a smooth bar and the ocean beyond was even smoother.
What a great start to my birthday!
I told the crew I had one wish for my birthday and that was to again break
the boat record, which because of last weeks trips was now 33.  So with
that request we proceeded to put 10 fish in the boat on the first stop.  The
tuna were there and we were catching them in good numbers!  Live bait
and anything metal would catch them this day.  In fact I caught most of
mine on metal jigs.  As is normal the count went south as the numbers in
the boat grew and we had no idea how many we had as we pulled lines and
a great trip.  What we did know was that our ice was at its end and we had
tuna on the deck with no place to go!  Time to leave!  The crew started
carking tuna so as to be able to stuff the fillets in what space was left.   I
was able to run in at full speed.  The ocean was flat and the crew happy!
But did we break the record?  The crew did not think so but this captain
thought maybe we had!
Back at the dock with the boat on the trailer, we started offloading the tuna!
10, 16, 18,26...........  When it was all said and done 41 tuna had landed on the
deck of "Just Keep Fishing" that day!  A new boat record!  A fitting end to
the tuna season for me for another year!
