If they did not know before then they do now. It was not my intention to cause the new neighbor to live in
fear of her life but I guess she does now. My son and I had just arrived home from a deer and pheasant
hunt. You know just the normal everyday hunt.
It might be important here for me to explain the items that go along with a one-day hunt. Yes, this was just
a one-day hunt. Not the multiple day hunts that I sometimes take. Well lets see? There is the leaky water
jug so that we have water for the dogs and ourselves. We fill it up because by the time a hunt is over most
of the water has leaked out rather than having been used for nourishment sake.
There is the bag of dog food that we had to buy at the local 24 hour establishment, because my son did not
feed the dogs the night before. The dogs seldom eat during a hunt so I am not sure why we bought it. I
guess it was so I did not feel bad. Now that bag of food is spread all over the back of the truck, mixing with
the water from the leaky water jug creating a cement like substance.
There is the cooler with the cans of juice in it. No ice, just juice cans. Warm nasty tasting juice. The same
cans we took on the last trip. The same cans that were soaked in blood from the birds we shot on that trip.
Another layer of blood has now been deposited from the birds we shot this time. Maybe I will drink some of
the juice next time.
There are the 23 coats we have brought along in case it gets cold. Why so many coats, I do not know?
Maybe it will be real cold. Maybe we will run into some starving peasants that are cold? If they think they
are getting any of my freeway coats (I have a knack for finding coats along the freeway), they have another
think coming. Of course if I run into them with the truck then they wont have to worry about the cold.
If you are hunting you need to take ammunition. In this regard we have out done the coats. We have
enough ammo with us to fight a war with any would be invaders we might come across. My son has to load
it into the truck with a forklift. Sometimes I think we should cut back on how much we take but then I
remember the movie RED DAWN and toss in a few more boxes.
Of course there is the guns. There is one shotgun for each of us. Then there is the extra shotgun for any
possible breakdowns we might have, but we never have those. J My 9mm pistol between the front seat
with the thirty round clip and the two 15 round clips. Two rifles in the event that some silly deer actually
blunders into us and we have to shoot him. The extra rifle, again in case of break downs. My son also
throws in the 22 cal rifle, just in case we might have time to shoot it at something.
Now imagine you are a new homeowner that has just bought a house next to me, and you are moving in.
As you are unloading your furniture, you glance next door where your new neighbor has just arrived home.
He is dressed in bright orange, well maybe it is dull orange from all the dirt and blood on it. Him and his son
jump out and the first thing they do is get a cooler out of the back of the truck and dump it out on the lawn.
You cringe at the sight of what comes out of the cooler. It appears to be several gallons of blood. There is
also some cans of what appear to be soda and a bag of what can only be described as body parts. That’s
bad enough but then the two grab a can from the bloody gore on the lawn and pop the tops and take a
drink.
When at last you can again take a look, all you see are several coats being unloaded, some with blood
stains on them. The coats appear as though they have come from the backs of peasants. Some have tears
and others appear as though they should have been thrown away long ago. It is obvious to you that a great
struggle was needed to have been able to get those coats away from the starving peasants. Some were
hurt as evidenced by all the blood.
Then the guns start to be pulled from the truck. They come out and are laid on the lawn. So many, in fact,
you are sure the FBI would be interested. Boxes and boxes of ammunition are also unloaded. The worst is
yet to come. The boy is the one handling the guns! How can anyone let someone of that age near a gun?
Has not that man heard of that school in Colorado?
It is hard to imagine that you had let this same boy into your house, just the day before to help you carry a
mattress. You now feel you are lucky to be alive, but you are sure that it will not be long before in the
middle of the night they will come. The neighbors next door are worse than your nightmares. You wonder
if you can still get out of the contract for this new home.
If They Had Only Known
