This coming year, 2007, My friends and I are going to go on a hunt in Wyoming!   We have done these hunts in the past and have
had a great time.  Since the planning is often some of the most fun you have on a hunt like this, I thought it would be good for all my
visitors to follow the planning from the very beginning.  You will see the sucess or failure of our quest for tags and in the end, it will
be as if you were there with us!  The group is already commited to the cause and we will be keeping it that way.  The more we take,
the more horses that are required and horses mean work!  So five guys will venture forth into the Wyoming high country.
We have the advantage of knowing that we will get our elk tags!  The tag we will put in for is an antlerless tag and but for one year in
the last 10, there have always been tags leftover.  Deer and antelope are another matter.  Those tags will be hard to come by.
Amount of days to go into this hunt will depend on the number of tags drawn.  There will be some doe/fawn tags available for deer
and antelopeand thus if we are very lucky, we could be looking at 6 or more animals each to be harvested.

So lets start with letting you know who I will share this hunt with.

"Doc", I have known for more years than I would like to
admit!  We met on a camping trip deep in the bowels
of a California canyon.  We each had Boy Scout troops
in tow.  We found right away we had many things in
common and off we went into the world to see what
we could find!  It has been quite a trip!

"Just George", formerly known as "Elkless George" I met
while working evenings at a Domino's Pizza place.  I
needed the extra money to support my habits, hunting
and fishing, and I found he was also afflicted.  We have
since been each others continued drug of choice on many
hunts.  On my "Tales of adventure" page here on this site,
you will find a few stories about him.

"Nick, the Stick" is a friend of my sons from high school.  I
have hunted and fished with him alot, and if you have
followed the fishing videos I have here on the site you
will also know he is a member of "Team Just Keep Fishing".
He works hard and him and my son will be what us older
guys will call our "Mules."  They seem to have endless
stamina for the hard work of handling the horses.  Of
course we had to add an extra horse to carry the extra
food young guys like this will eat!

"Bashoy Raub", "Little Slave Boy" in Russian, will fill out
the group!  He is my son and really knows his way around
horses.  He likes to hunt and most of the time we get
along.  He complains that I give out orders like I am on my
boat, and likely he is right.  I will have to endeavor to treat
him as just one of the guys!  Thank heaven for 401k's.
The only way he will have money to go.  Dad no longer pays
his bills!
Well now that you have met the team, lets show you a few pictures from hunts to this same area.  This is an area that I guided in
when I was in my 20's.  It is high country and at times rugged!  Mountain Goats have now migrated into the area and there is an
open season on them.  This was not the case 25 years ago.  I have made three trips back into this area since I guided there.  If
planned right, you can hunt many different species and fill the freezer.  About 15 years ago I got two friends together and we went
there for 21 days!  We had 6 tags each.  We were very lucky with the draw.  1 antlerless elk, 1 any deer tag, 2 doe/fawn deer tags and
two doe/fawn antelope tags.   The following pictures are the result of that hunt!
Then some years later when my son was old enough I planned another trip.  I had my son work with me the whole summer long to help pay his
way.  I got "Elkless George" (he still was during and after this trip) to come along also!  We had extremely dry conditions and could not even
have a campfire at night.  We had some real challenges (click this link for a story about a
horsewreck  that happened during the hunt) and did not
get a single elk during the trip.  "Elkless George" headed home and my son and I headed for the desert to meet up with some family and some
antelope tags.   We got some antelope and had a good visit with my father and daughter and son in-law!
